My sister hadn't seen any reindeer at all on her last visit here in Lapland. So I wanted to correct that thing at once! I asked help from the local reindeer herder that could he help us in this tricky situation. I knew that his reindeers weren't surrounded by fence like the usual situation would be in the winter time.
What a surprise! We were so lucky that we got the chance to feed the reindeers! Neither one of us was expecting that this could be possible. This was almost the last opportunity for this winter to experience this. Snow is melting and reindeers are able to find food on their own. This herd had learned the lunch times and gathered up at certain place waiting for their food truck to show up.
This was the first time for me as well when I saw reindeers at this close distance. Last fall there was a reindeer roundup where the herders gather up the reindeers they own. Kimmo and I were watching the event behind the fence. The owner can recognise his reindeer for special mark made on the animal's ear.
Lot's of reindeers! An my sister is so happy!
